As the Canadian Wireless Spectrum Auction heads into Round 40 today, Industry Minister Jim Prentice said it’s going “exceptionally well” and the government is pleased with the results to date of $3.2 billion (now doubled the original forecasts). “Very clearly, having a competitive auction process and a policy framework that encourages new entry to the market is an important part of this overall auction. I’m confident that the people who are bidding on the spectrum will ensure they have adequate resources to build out the spectrum and to build out their system.”
Rogers Communications, BCE Inc, and Telus Corp still lead the way, however, with Ottawa setting reserved 40 percent of the 105 megahertz being auctioned for new entrants: Quebecor, Globalive, DAVE and Shaw Communications are still battling it out
