Motorola announced a cost-reduction plan back in October that had a total of 3,000 jobs to be cut. Half those were to be in Q4 alone. However, as a nice year-end bonus Motorola has changed the Q4 number to be 1,900… which means another 400 people can expect a pink slip very soon.
The overall strategy is to stop Motorola from bleeding and save an estimated $800 million in 2009.
