I’ve seriously gone bald waiting for the official release date of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. This has had its share of issues being approved by Rogers… but do not fret Canadians! You can now go to your local Rogers location and get yourself the long awaited HTC assisted designed smartphone from Sony Ericsson.
The X1 overall dimensions are 4.4 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches and weighs in at a hefty 158.0 grams. To compare, the iPhone 3G S is 135 grams and the HTC Magic is only 119 grams. So, make sure you bring a brace when you carry this around as it’s quite the brick – but with all due respect the X1 looks incredible, mainly for the solid metal finish. This is a 3.0-inch VGA touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480 and has a slide out full QWERTY keyboard that makes typing your e-mail/messages a great deal easier. Another key feature of the X1 is the addition of the optical trackpad that allows you to scroll through your application with a breeze.
Other key features of the X1 are the 3.5 mm audio jack, microSD slot to hold up to 16GB of memory, Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 for all you messaging, threaded text messaging, MMS and IM, Stereo FM radio, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash. This also comes with VGA video recording, Wi-Fi and built-in GPS.
Hands down the most exciting aspect about the X1 is the “Panels” interface. This allows the user to change the way the look of the home screen and get quick access to one several web services (Facebook, Google). Sony Ericsson is priding themselves on ensuring you only need “one-touch” to get to the applications you really want. You can have a total of 9 panels on your desktop which can be viewed either in portrait and landscape mode. More panels can be downloaded via your X1 or at the Sony Ericsson Fun & Downloads web site.
