LG is the number 3 handset manufacturer in the world (behind Nokia and Samsung) but that’s not stopping them from dramatically increasing the number of smartphone shipments this year. In 2010 LG shipped 7 million smartphones (mainly the Optimus One which has sold about 3 million units since launching in October)… but this year LG Mobile VP Ma Chang-min stated they have a target to ship 30 million smartophone units. They have a great opportunity with the new devices they recently announced such as the LG Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black. Chang-min said “Our strategy for 2011 will be improving such premium offerings as Optimus 2X and Black and grow our smartphone portion in our portfolio to be in line with the market growth”.
