Toronto-based Polar Mobile has a strong relationship with RIM. They have created many apps for BlackBerry devices such as TIME, Bloomberg Business, Canadian Living Food Network and Conde Nast. Their apps are also available on Windows Phone, iOS, Android and Samsung Bada but they will be expanding past smartphones into the tablet market with the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook.
In a release today Polar stated that they will release about 100 apps for the PlayBook in 2011. Kunal Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, Polar Mobile said that “Tablets represent a massive opportunity for our customers to increase reach, drive engagement and create a new revenue stream. We are excited to extend our Platform to the PlayBook and believe it will be a key content consumption device that Publishers need to be on”.
A more interesting was stands out from this news today for this proud Canadian company. They revealed that “The 180+ Super Apps powered by Polar Mobile on BlackBerry smartphones today have been used by over 4,000,000 people in 100 countries”. This is impressive considering there are 20,000 apps available in the BlackBerry App World and 3 million are downloaded everyday. Good solid numbers for one company.
