Back in September Bert Nordberg, Sony Ericsson’s President & CEO, stated they have an “ambition to become the global number one handset provider on the Android platform”. There is still some work to be done but with the upcoming releases of the Android 2.3 Xperia arc and Play they’ll certainly get closer. Today Sony Ericsson announced their Q1 2011 results and reports shipments of 8.1 million devices (down 23% from last year). More specific insight into their Android quest reveals that their “shift towards an Android-based smartphone portfolio, with smartphones comprising over 60% of our total sales during the quarter”. Sales in Q1 were €1,145 million (down 19% from last year).
