Here’s more attention for RIM this morning. How does “Operation Disruptive Transformation” sound? BerryReview received a set of documents that were created by a consultant named John J. Simpson and what you’re looking outlines RIM’s new strategy to “stomp the competition”. In this case the competition is Apple, Nokia, LG, HTC and Sony Ericsson. Motorola and Samsung are both missing. According to the slides the focus is to increase sales and position RIM as a forward thinking, consumer-friendly and cool brand. The goal: to make RIM into an organization that people say we “gotta-have-it”.
It’s evident the competition has made some more desirable devices over the past couple years. Ever since Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android OS were introduced RIM has steadily been slipping in market share. Their stock price has taken a hit but we’re hoping with the new onslaught of BlackBerry 7 devices that they’ll find a way back into consumers hands. It’s been a year since RIM released any new handsets and next year they will once again unload a new smartphone operating system to the masses with their QNX platform.
If true, “Operation Disruptive Transformation” sounds intense and the doc states that “It’s not about a new OS, a new product, a new app or even connecting on Facebook. It’s about creating an emotionally rewarding experience based on consumers fundamental desires. The answer is hiding in plain site”.
