Over the past year or so Samsung has been hitting the market hard with Android and Windows Phone 7 devices, meanwhile their own Bada OS has taken a back seat. At the upcoming IFA 2011 in Berlin this week Samsung will bring Bada back into the spotlight as they’ve just announced 3 new devices: the Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y. All these smartphones will be powered by the new Bada 2.0 platform and will have the newly announced ChatON free messaging service, TouchWiz, Music Hub, Social Hub and Samsung Apps (their app store which has about 13,000 available apps).
The specs range for each handset, but are impressive and come with Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities. The Wave 3, clearly the flagship Bada device, has a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.4GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera that shoots 720p HD video, VGA front facing camera, 9.9mm thin, HSPA+ connectivity, holds up to 32GB with a microSD card and has a 1,500mAh battery. The Wave M has a 832MHz processor, 3.65-inch HVGA display (resolution of 320×480) that’s made of tempered glass, 5 megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, holds up to 32GB with a microSD card, 1,350mAh battery. Finally, the Wave Y is an entry level smartphone that comes with a 3.2-inch HVGA display (320×480 resolution), 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and a 1,200mAh battery.
