ChatON is Samsung’s messaging service that allows you to send text messages, picture and video messages and group chat for free – plus also has some cool social features that lets you give an buddy “Interaction Rank” and also send animated messages. ChatON now joins the multitude of similar services out there, namely RIM’s BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and Apple’s iMessage. The major difference is that ChatON can be used “across all major smartphone and feature phone platforms” and is not limited to an OS. However, it currently comes pre-loaded on some bada devices and is only available to downloaded via the Android Market or Samsung Apps, but will coming to “other platforms by the end of 2011”.
“Today, Samsung launches the ChatON service, which will be available worldwide. Users can download ChatON for free through Samsung Apps or Android MarketTM and use it on various mobile devices, including Samsung GALAXY SII. ChatON will also be preloaded on to bada smartphones and selected feature phones from Samsung starting October, and will be available for other platforms by the end of 2011.”
