Rogers Q3 2011 results: Subscriber base increases by 161,000 (mainly Prepaid), now totals 9,288,000


Rogers has reported their Q3 2011 results and they increased by 166,000 subs, taking them to a total subscriber base of 9,288,000. Rogers does note that net Postpaid subscribers was 74,000 for the quarter, down 51,000 from a year ago. Net PrePaid additions increased by 1,000 to represent 87,000 – this was a results of Fido, Chatr and prepaid wireless data plans for tablets and Rocket Sticks. Combined it’s a total decrease in net subs by 50,000 which was caused by “heightened competitive intensity”. ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) was $61.79 in Q3, falling $2.59 from last year, which is good for us customers.

In the report Rogers notes they “activated and upgraded approximately 609,000 smartphones” that were “predominantly iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices”, and wireless data revenue increased by approximately 28% to hit $611 million, and $1,725 million for the first 9 months. Total revenue for the quarter increased 1% to $1,832b, and is also up by 2% so far this year to $5,312b

Nadir Mohamed, President and CEO of Rogers said “Rogers delivered a balanced set of financial and subscriber results in the third quarter, with continued growth in the face of an extremely competitive environment. The strength of our asset mix, combined with a focused execution on our priorities – wireless data growth, customer retention and managing our cost structure – enabled Rogers to generate continued strong margins and free cash flow while increasing the amount of cash returned to shareholders by double digits year-over-year.”
