The RIM Q3 Fiscal 2012 Results conference call is happening now and all hands are on deck. Some interesting tidbits such as Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, Co-CEOs at Research In Motion, will be cutting their salaries down to $1/year each. This should help their financials a bit, plus calm investors. Could also be the last straw for them too.
More importantly, from a device perspective, Lazaridis stated that for BlackBerry 10 devices, otherwise known as BBX, to succeed they will “need a highly integrated dual-core LTE platform. The processor we selected offers industry leading power and efficiency, and also allows us to deliver the industrial design that we believe is critical to the success in this market segment. This chip set will not be available until mid-2012, and as a result of this, and certain other factors, we now expect our first BlackBerry 10 smartphone to reach market in the latter part of calendar 2012. In the meantime we believe our strong BlackBerry 7 portfolio will continue to drive adoption around the world.”
It’s interesting because Lazaridis said “smartphone”, not plural. It’s rumoured that RIM has 5 devices coming in 2012 – London, Lisbon, Milan, Nevada, Black Forest. We now have lots of time to dream about these phones.
