Acer Iconia Tab A700 leaks, 1080p screen and Tegra 3 in tow

The next generation of Android tablets is upon us, with the near release of the Asus Transformer Prime and now, according to some leaked renders, the Acer Iconia Tab A700. The follow-up to the marginally-successful A500 looks to improve on the Transformer Prime in one major way, at least: by being outfitted with a 1920×1200 pixel screen. Certainly the highest-quality density tablet screen on the market, the A700 is also expected to arrive early next year with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip inside.

Other supposed specs include a 9800mAh battery and, as a result, a weighty 1.43lb chassis. There should be a 5MP camera on the back and “HD-compatible” shooter on the front along with requisite SIM and headphone ports. No word on whether it has full-sized USB ports but at this size it wouldn’t be beyond assumption.

As long as Acer keeps the material quality high (read: no more creaky plastic) and ships with Android 4.0, the A700 will sure to be a success. The design looks to be cleaner, darker and overall sleeker than its predecessor, and while it may not equal the lithe profile of the Asus, if the price is right people will flock to it. Or, at least, I will.

More to come.
