A professional organization called Application Developers Alliance is set to recruit mobile app developers beginning next week at CES. Jon Potter, a former Digital Media Association exec, is attempting to get as many devs to join as possible in order to “promote their interests, enabling collaboration and product testing while offering education, cloud hosting, and governmental lobbying on their behalf,” according to Infoworld.
The group is aimed mainly at iOS, Android and BlackBerry developers, but all manner of web devs are welcome. The aim is to make it easier for developers to organize amongst themselves — independent dev houses are usually disparate and have to do much of the building, testing and hosting on their own. The goal is also to host workshops and tutorials on marketing and distribution, something a single person or small team doesn’t have the time to focus on when they’re busy building the Next Big App.
Another large aspect of the ADA will be government lobbying, in order make it easier for small firms to copyright and patent their intellectual property and ideas.
RIM and Google are both expected to be backers of the organization, though neither has come out with its official support just yet.
