Most carriers in Canada have some sort of device recycling program in place. The latest was Fido with FidoTRADE, basically mimicking what Best Buy and Future Shop have in their stores. Now TELUS is rolling out their initiative called the TELUS “Trade-In Program”. TELUS has partnered with eRecyclingCorps and the premise is similar – new or existing customers can take an old, unwanted, handset or accessory and depending on its condition you’ll get a certain dollar amount. If the device is deemed to have no monetary value, TELUS will donate $3 to Tree Canada. Actually, reading over the internal doc that we received says that “TELUS will donate $3 to Tree Canada for every device that is recycle”, which is a nice gesture.
We’ve been informed that some locations has started to promote the Trade-In program, but the full rollout will happen in April. Here’s some fine details for you to know until the program is live and officially announced:
– Trade-in credits must be used towards the purchase of a handset and/or accessory at the time of renewal or activation.
– Devices valued at $0 are recycled and TELUS will donate $3 to Tree Canada.
– Devices from all carriers are eligible.
– Available to new and existing Post-paid and Prepaid customers at the time of activation or renewal.
– Up to 3 devices can be traded-in at one time to a maximum combined value of $200.
– Mobile internet keys and non-TELUS devices are eligible.
– Tablets are not eligible at this time.
– No minimum contract term required.
– Trade-In devices require a working battery and battery door cover; other accessories
are not requiring for trade-in.
– Customers who wish to recycle their old device(s) which have no trade-in value can
drop off their device(s) at any time at participating TELUS locations.
– Trade-in credits cannot be used towards an EDUF (Early Device Upgrade Fee).
