iOS 5.1 code reveals possible iPhone LTE in the works (Video)

Now that the new iPad is launched and racking up sales well over 3 million, it’s time to direct the rumours to the next Apple mobile product, which would be the next-generation iPhone. Many rumours have surfaced in the past about this device: bigger screen – even yesterday reports of the display coming in at 4.6-inches (probably not happening), better camera, thinner, and pack LTE speeds.

A string of code in iOS 5.1 was found by Cydia developer Krishna Sagar and he states that Apple is working on, or at least testing, an LTE iPhone. The evidence shows that we could see Apple bringing FaceTime over 4G capabilities (currently only officially available over a Wi-Fi connection). Plus the code also reveals the text “Using LTE loads data faster.”, and also “Enable LTE”. Video below.

So for now you can add this rumour to the rest of them, but since the new iPad has LTE it would be the next logical move to make the ‘iPhone 5’ be LTE-enabled. Surely by the time Apple comes out with the next iPhone, Canada’s carriers will have expanded their LTE coverage area. Currently Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Virgin have LTE coverage – coming soon will be MTS and SaskTel.
