BlackBerry Curve 9220 specs detailed, shipping with BlackBerry 7.1

As revealed during yesterday’s stockholder call with RIM CEO Thorsten Heins, RIM is going to be releasing a couple low-end BlackBerry devices to round out its offerings for pre-paid and low-cost post-paid markets. One of which is the previously-leaked BlackBerry Curve 9220, and now RIM has revealed official specs for the device, including the fact that it will ship with BlackBerry 7.1.

We’re looking at a low 2.44″ 320×240 pixel display (164ppi), 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, a 2MP camera (5x digital zoom) with native resolution video capabilities, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, and EDGE connectivity. As a result, it is unlikely to be released in Canada, as Rogers is the only carrier to run a 2G EDGE network, but it could work on a low-cost provider like Chatr or Fido.

The document also states that it will ship with BlackBerry 7.1.0.316, which is pretty new. Overall, not a great smartphone for most people, but will also probably retail for very little.
