We told you it was coming, and now it’s here. Max Payne, one of the early aught’s most popular console games, is now available for iOS. The game that brought bullet time to the homes of millions has been optimized for the touchscreen, with updated graphics and easy-to-use on-screen controls.
The new textures have even been optimized for the new iPad’s Retina Display, and all the noirish cutscenes have been preserved to great effect. It’s also quite customizable, with various control schemes and aiming modes available depending on your proclivity to twitchy fingers.
Interestingly, Rockstar advises you to “reboot your device after downloading and close other applications when playing Max Payne Mobile, for optimal performance.” As iOS is supposed to suspend all other activity in the background when an app is open, this sounds more like an Android-based advisement than on iOS. But, after years of jailbreaking my iOS device, it’s quite apparent that despite being suspended iOS apps still consume considerable amounts of RAM.
The game is 1.1GB, so all you 16GB iPhone and iPad users may have to clear up some room on your devices. The Android version is coming April 26th.
Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4, iPad 1, iPad 2 and the new iPad, the game runs a reasonable $2.99 and can be downloaded from the App Store.
