The Acer Iconia A500 tablet has lagged behind its Asus counterpart in getting the upgrade to Android 4.0 but it seems to be coming on April 27th. The 7-inch A100 tablet will begin its ICS rollout on May 3rd, barely a week later.
The A500 made a big splash when it was released last year, as it was the cheapest Android tablet available, and fit the budget of many users looking for an alternative to the iPad while keeping mind of their pocketbooks. It’s uncertain whether the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will bring Acer’s Ring interface, but we’re hoping it does.
The 3G-powered Rogers Acer Iconia A501, which we looked at earlier this year, will not be getting the upgrade, according to Asus. Which is unfortunate, because all these tablets stand to gain a lot from Ice Cream Sandwich.
