iOS 6 beta already jailbroken, but don’t expect a public release anytime soon

The iOS 6 beta has been available for less than 24 hours, but that hasn’t kept jailbreak developers from attempting to burrow into its deepest faculties.

MuscleNerd, the purveyor of jailbreak exploits everywhere, announced on his Twitter feed that although he’s been able to successfully jailbreak iOS 6 it is of the tethered variety and Cydia, the de facto alternate app store, is not yet functional. In other words, the jailbreak may not be available publicly for some time but there is hope that, eventually, we’ll have an untethered solution when it’s released later in the year.

The achievement was made on a fourth generation iPod Touch which uses the typically less secure A4 chip. Recent devices such as the iPhone 4S and new iPad, both of which use an A5 chip, are more difficult to hack as Apple added more layers of security to the hardware itself.
