The Windows Phone Tango update, AKA Commercial Release 3, is already shipping on some handsets such as the Lumia 610 and updated Lumia 900 in Europe. But to a large extent we don’t know when, or if, carriers will roll it out to existing handsets.
The main tenets of the upgrade are pretty simple:
Messaging. Adds new messaging capabilities to your phone. You can now attach multiple pictures, videos, audio notes and ringtones to text messages.
SIM card. Adds features related to SIM card contacts. You can now export phone contacts to a SIM card and selectively import SIM card contacts to your phone.
Other quality improvements. Includes many other improvements to Windows Phone.
The build, version 8773.98, has been a long time coming, but we don’t know whether Microsoft, nor the carriers, intend to push out the update to existing devices. The official Windows Phone update website reveals that “This update is not available in all markets or for all phones,” which is a worrying sign, but we remain hopeful.
