VLC for Android would be considered vaporware if it wasn’t for the fact that due to its open-source nature, users have been compiling unofficial versions for months now. We told you about its impending release in May based on unofficial builds, but it looks like the team is readying its official debut. The media viewing app is considered to be one of the best cross-platform players for its versatility and built-in codec library.
In a Twitter post yesterday, the @VideoLAN team wrote, “Android, here we come!” While that doesn’t mean that the release is necessarily imminent, it does suggest that the VideoLAN team is at least excited about the release.
We’ll bring you more when it comes, but in the meantime you can download the unofficial builds.
