If the rumours turn out to be true, Sony is to release a half-sequel to the Xperia S with a faster processor, much like they did with the Xperia arc and arc s last year. Dubbed the Sony Xperia SL, with a model number LT26ii, the handset may come with a Snapdragon S4 processor, which would put it in line with the current crop of high-end Android devices.
The major issues we had with the Xperia S were software-based, as it came with Android 2.3 at a time that 4.0 was well available on devices like the HTC One X. Now that the Xperia S has been updated to Ice Cream Sandwich in some parts of the world, combined with a faster processor, the Xperia SL could be a pretty viable contender for top of the Android crown.
Canada is to receive the Xperia Ion by the end of July on multiple carriers, it was confirmed to us recently. As a result we may never see this Xperia SL refresh but, like the Xperia S itself, perhaps Sony could sell it directly to consumers.
What do you think? Would the Xperia SL with Android 4.0 be an attractive prospect?
