RIM’s CEO says first BlackBerry 10 device coming in January

During RIM’s recent quarterly results they declared that BlackBerry 10 is “now scheduled for Q1 of calendar 2013.” The reasoning for the delay was due becuase software devs are putting a “large volume of code into the platform” and this “has proven to be more time consuming than anticipated.”

However, it seems the delay will be short lived as a bit of clarity surfaced today from an interview between CIO’s Al Sacco and RIM’s CEO Thorsten Heins. Sacco asked, “But how long do they [users] have to wait for RIM to prove it is still in the game? Will BlackBerry 10 solve all of RIM’s problems?” In response, Heins openly stated that “I’m not happy with the situation at RIM either. Who can be happy and satisfied with where we are? What I am satisfied with is that I know we have a path to the future with BlackBerry 10, because I see it. In January with the full touch device and the QWERTY coming, I think we will reinstall faith in RIM. That’s what we’re working on… I have faith in the future. My team is working relentlessly to create that future.”

So there you have it. RIM’s first BlackBerry 10 device looks like it’s coming in January 2013. This falls in line with the leaked roadmap from last week. After the full touchscreen BB10 launch we’ll see RIM release a physical QWERTY handset.
