There wasn’t much new information given during RIM’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today, generally that they are committed to deliver BlackBerry 10 sometime in Q1 2013, plus that they are on a massive $1 billion cost savings initiative.
However, there was one nugget. A question was asked to Thorsten Heins, RIM’s CEO, about how they plan on upgrading BBM to service more into the social networking space. Currently there’s over 56 million BBM users around the world and according to Heins “BBM is a very strong platform… we are upgrading it into a new experience, think about getting features on BB10 such as video chat for example within BBM. There’s many other features to come with BB10…”
Last week an internal doc surfaced online that potentially showed off what BBM would look like on BB10 – customizable display options, but didn’t give an insight into a video chat option. BBM Video Chat is a great step forward and will continue the BlackBerry adoption rate. Audio below:
