We know of a few high-end LG devices launching in Canada this year. The Optimus 4X HD will be arriving this fall, and Canada will hopefully be included in the Optimus Vu party. Then there’s the beastly Optimus LTE 2 which launched in Korea earlier this year which has not been slated for a North American release, but anything’s possible.
Now it looks like LG is pushing to overtake Samsung as the king of high-speed hardware with the Optimus G. Rumoured to be sporting a quad-core Tegra 3+ or Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC, 2GB RAM, a 13MP shooter and a 4.7-inch TrueHD IPS display, the device could be the most powerful handset to ever hit these shores. Along with an improved Optimus UI version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and LG could be back in the proverbial game.
How will it look? The Optimus G is apparently inspired by the “L” line of devices which include the Optimus L7. As I said in the review of that unfortunate device, LG is definitely on to something with the design of the L series; it’s just too bad the hardware can’t keep up. By taking that gorgeous form factor and combining it with winning hardware, consumers will lap it up.
If true, the Optimus G could also be the first quad-core LTE device released in North America — a big “first” like that could be a huge marketing get for LG. Time will tell, but we’re only a few days away from IFA in Germany.
