Corning’s Gorilla Glass is on a billion devices and the company is coming back to the table with an even strong product. They will showcase this generation product – Gorilla Glass 3 – at CES 2013 in Las Vegas next week. GG3 claims to be even tougher than the first two version and features a “new glass composition with durability enhancements” called “Native Damage Resistance” that reportedly offers a 40% reduction in the number of visible scratches. In addition, if your device suffers a scratch it has a 50% better chance of retaining it’s strength so future breaks won’t occur.
There’s no indication yet on the manufacturers Corning has enrolled into using Gorilla Glass 3, but we’ll bring you a demo from the CES floor. Also, no word on where “Willow Glass” is. Corning recently noted that “We are excited about the development of Corning Willow Glass, an ultra-slim flexible glass that we believe could revolutionize the shape and form of next-generation consumer electronics technologies.” Perhaps this will launch next year. Below is a demo from CES 2012 of Gorilla Glass 2.
