Over the weekend, it was revealed that the 64GB version of the HTC One would be coming to the U.S. as an AT&T exclusive. Not long before, I’d reached out to the Canadian carriers to ask whether any of them would be carrying the aforementioned model and the most common answer was that there was low demand for such a product.
The HTC One, when it arrives in Canada at the end of April, will be around $149.99 on a 3-year term, based on the Rogers pre-order pricing. This is for the 32GB model, making it possible that a 64GB version would be between $199.99 and $249.99, depending on the cost to the carrier.
There are only two 64GB smartphones on the market: the iPhone 5, which currently costs $199.99, and the HTC One X+, which is currently free on a three-year term. It’s unlikely that these devices are the best sellers in their categories, either, as many phone buyers have been trained to stick with lower-cost handsets at the expense of internal storage. On the other hand, we have devices like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia ZL which come with microSD slots so you can add your own storage, augmenting the 16GB already inside.
If one or all of the Canadian carriers offered the HTC One in a 64GB version, would you buy it? If so, let us know, and maybe they will take notice and offer it for sale in the future.
