Sony has made the long-awaited Sony Xperia Tablet Z available for pre-order this morning starting at $499.99CDN for the 16GB version.
The company announced the thin, high-resolution tablet earlier this year and maintains it is the thinnest slate available to consumers. Its 1080p Reality Display boasts improved contrast and colour saturation from previous models, and Sony is hoping its One Touch and TV remote enhancements will give it the edge of other Android tablet OEMs.
The tablet has a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 pixel screen, a 1.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, 16-32GB internal storage (plus a microSD slot), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and WiFi a/b/g/n. It has a non-removable 6000mAh battery which promises 10 hours of video playback as well. Launching with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, Sony promises to upgrade users to Android 4.2 shortly after availability. The tablet weighs just over 1lb (495g) and has dimensions of 266 x 172 x 6.9mm.
Much has been said about the tablet’s lithe profile and its water resistance. We took a look at a pre-production model in February and came away impressed by its performance, its multimedia capabilities and its build quality and design, which does away with the “folded paper” arrangement of the Tablet S and Xperia Tablet S in favour of a consistent, modern, streamlined look.
There will also be a 32GB version available for $599CDN, and the slate is expected to ship on Wednesday, May 22nd.
