BlackBerry announces the departure of two major executives

The newly-official BlackBerry Ltd. is losing two major contributors to the launch of its BlackBerry 10 operating system and device portfolio.

T.A. McCann, who became VP of social networks and BBM, was brought to the company with the acquisition of Gist, a popular social calendar, when the startup was acquired in 2011. He was primarily responsible for social networking integration in BlackBerry 10 and is leaving of his own accord, saying the decision was mutual and amicable.

Marc Gingras was another BlackBerry exec obtained from an acquisition, this time Tungle.me, and designed the smart calendar inside the PlayBook tablet. He is also leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Yesterday, all major executives at the company, including CEO Thorsten Heins, were re-elected as members of the board  at the Annual General Meeting. Heins asked investors and his thousands of employees to be patient as BlackBerry transitions through a rough period of device introduction and service rollouts.

BlackBerry is expected to debut three more BB10 devices this year, including a 5-inch A10, and will be bringing BBM to iPhone and Android later this summer.
