Samsung will be showing off their new smartwatch – officially called the Galaxy Gear – on September 4th. Rumours of this new Android-powered device have been circling for months and today there’s a new round of specs that adds to what’s already online.
Samsung has confirmed that the Gear will be targeted towards ‘young trend setters’ and will launch in several colour options. Previous rumours have pointed towards the Gear sporting a 2.5-inch OLED full colour display (320 x 320 resolution), dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos 4212 processor, accelerometer, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and will be a ‘smartphone companion’ product.
A new report by AmongTech, via CNET, has their sources agreeing with those specs and features, but also notes that the Gear will have 10 hours of battery life (hopefully longer), comes with a 4MP camera that captures 720p videos, embedded speakers on the watch strap, run Android Jelly Bean, 1 GB of RAM and come in an 8GB and 16GB models.
There’s still no indication of price or firm availability (possibly October). If these specs are true, would you buy?
Update: Reputable device leaker evLeaks has posted an image online that shows Samsung with have the “Gear Manager” for the Galaxy Gear. This will assist you to connect to various setting or applications – such as ‘Find my watch’ or basic function like the clock, plus all the Samsung apps as previous reported. In addition, the model number of the Galaxy Gear is SM-V700.
