Update: Rogers customers can now sign up for a 2-month trial of Next Issue. It also looks like the iPad version is not yet live, but Rogers customers can access the service via their Android or Windows 8 tablet. Check it out here at Next Issue
The full launch for all Canadians will be happening on December 15th.
Rogers is big into media. They have their own radio stations, TV stations, plethora of apps and several known magazine titles. Today, Rogers has announced a new subscription-based service that they declare is the ‘way of future for content consumption.’
Rogers Media has announced ‘Next Issue Canada,’ an exclusive partnership with Next Issue Media, which was originally a joint venture formed by Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp., and Time Inc. This will bring an ‘all-you-can-read subscription digital magazine service’ to tablets for $9.99/month.
The app – available on iPads, Android tablets and Windows 8 devices including PCs – will officially be available on October 15th and give subscribers the option to read over 100 well known Canadian and U.S. magazine titles including Maclean’s, Chatelaine, FLARE, Today’s Parent, Sportsnet, Canadian Business, LOULOU and MoneySense, Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, GQ, Esquire, Fortune, Glamour, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and TIME.
In addition to the $9.99/month price for monthly magazines, customers can opt to spend a bit more and go for the $14.99/month tier and gain access to weekly publications. Rogers wireless and cable customers can opt-in for a 2-month trial once it becomes available on October 15th. Rogers also notes that “On December 15, all Canadians will be able to access the Next Issue Canada digital newsstand, with the first month free.”
Next Issue Canada will only be in English with a ‘French version to follow in 2014.’ Also, apparently an iPhone app is in the works.
