You’d be forgiven for not realizing that Cat, aka Caterpillar, is also a smartphone distributor. The company sells ultra-rugged Android devices to select verticals like the construction industry.
Rogers is set to release one such device, the B15, next month starting at $99.99 on a 2-year term. The device comes with a 4-inch WVGA screen with wet finger tracking, a 2000mAh removable battery, pentaband 3G support, a dual-core 1Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, a 5MP camera, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, GPS and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It’s also IP67 compliant, making it completely waterproof for up to one metre for 30 minutes, and drop resistant up to 1.8 metres (6ft) onto concrete. It’s also rated for extreme temperature use between -20C and 55C.
Cat B15 is certainly not the average smartphone, but Rogers is counting on it having certain appeal, especially for those who want to play a couple minutes of Candy Crush before returning re-donning the hard hat.
Rogers isn’t saying when in November the B15 will go on sale, but we’ll update this post when it does.
