HTC firms up KitKat upgrade plans, to arrive on the One alongside Sense 5.5 in January

In the days following Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat announcement, HTC promised to update its flagship One handset to the new software, but wouldn’t commit on a specific timeline. It was updated to Android 4.3 in September.

Now that the software has been available, both to developers and hardware manufacturers, for a few weeks, HTC knows approximately how long it will take for Canadians to receive the accompanying update.

The company’s US-based Twitter account posted last night, “In North America, we plan to deliver Kit Kat (including Sense 5.5) to HTC One customers by the end of January.” Sense 5.5 is the same small but significant UI update to Sense 5.0 that allows users to hide BlinkFeed, among other niceties, that arrived with the HTC One Max.

No word on whether this will affect the HTC One mini, which arrived in Canada with Android 4.2.2, but we can only assume HTC won’t leave the One’s smaller companion behind.
