Samsung exec Lee Young Hee spilled the beans to Bloomberg about its upcoming plans for the Galaxy S5 and a new Galaxy Gear.
Lee stated, “We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time. When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”
The Galaxy S5 is tipped for an official unveiling in March with availability sometime in April. The report also indicated that Samsung is “studying” eye scanner technology and fingerprint sensors but unsure if it’ll find its way into the flagship. Samsung also admitted that the “reaction wasn’t as big” for the GS4 because there wasn’t much difference in design from the GS III. For the upcoming Galaxy S5, Samsung says they “will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover.”
Specs were not mentioned, but rumours have pointed towards the GS5 sporting a metal finish, a 64-bit Exynos or a Snapdragon processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16MP camera with Samsung’s new imaging technology, 4,000 mAh battery, running Android 4.4 KitKat with a new version of TouchWiz.
