Rogers to discontinue its One Number Phone Add-on

Rogers will discontinue its little-used One Number Phone Add-on on April 15th, according to a marketing document we received.

Citing “limited customer demand,” Rogers will end support for the adapter, which turns a customer’s regular phone into an IP phone, allowing them to make and receive calls from a mobile number.

Rogers One Number is a customized version of Counterpath’s multi-platform softphone solution, which allows customers to ring multiple numbers at once (including non-Rogers phones), set forwarding rules, block calls and receive voicemails. The One Number Phone Add-on works with a specialized adapter that plugs into an analog phone and routes cellphone calls through the Internet.

Unlike Rogers Home Phone, another IP telephony solution, the One Number Phone Add-on requires the user to already be a Rogers Wireless customer, but enabled unlimited Canadian long distance and mirrored existing features like voicemail and call display.

For current One Number Phone Add-on users, Rogers will be crediting the cost of the adapter ($29.99 plus tax) and discontinuing the monthly charge of $9.95 for the service on the next bill dated after April 15th. Rogers is also encouraging Phone Add-on users to migrate to the recently released One Number Smartphone apps, which were recently made available on iOS and Android devices.
