Currently, Apple’s App Store Code Program, which offers developers the ability to run special promotions, doesn’t support in-app purchases for either standard apps or Newsstand issues. That may be changing.
App Store review site 148apps has noticed that EA is currently offering promo codes for its Real Racing 3 iOS app that allow racers to get an in-app purchase normally priced at $1.99 for free. Visiting an EA landing page from their iOS device sends users to the App Store and automatically redeems the in-app content code. If Real Racing 3 isn’t on the device, the App Store will prompt a download before claiming the in-app purchase code.
If EA’s in-app purchase promotion trials are successful, it’s likely that all iOS developers will soon be able to take advantage of the feature via the App Store Code Program.
