Microsoft, like many others in the tech industry, is considering entering the smartwatch space. Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Motorola all launched or have plans to release a watch, plus rival Apple is heavily rumoured to begin participating in the coming months.
While many of the current smartwatches stay with one OS, Microsoft is reportedly coming to market with the option to sync with iPhones, Android phones and Windows Phones. According to Forbes, the Xbox Kinect team is leading the design and will look like the Samsung Gear Fit with a full-colour touch display “about the size of half a stick of gum, positioned on the inside of the wearer’s wrist.” Some features will possibly include the ability to continuously measure heart rate (24-hours of the day) and come with a two-day battery life.
Microsoft is reportedly gunning for a summer release, but if true, the biggest potential selling point will be the cross-platform connectivity with iPhone, Android and Windows Phone (no indication of BlackBerry being part of the mix).
This report is similar to one from a year ago that pegged Microsoft unveiling a smartwatch with a display of 1.5-inches.
