Instagram unveiled sponsored ads last November to those in the United States. The goal was to make the popular photo and video sharing app, which is owned by Facebook and has over 200 million users, into “a sustainable business.”
The ads are relatively unobtrusive and appear in your feed with the “Sponsored” logo on the right hand side. The company is looking beyond the States and will soon implement its ad service to three more countries: Canada, United Kingdom and Australia. There is no specific date, just that it will occur sometime “later this year.” Instagram is currently available for iOS and Android devices (BlackBerry users have ported over the Android app to BB10).
