Thalmic Labs’ Myo gesture-control armband has been in development for a long time, and the Waterloo-based wearable company has now unveiled its final design.
Gone is the look of a bulky armband and in its place is a piece of technology that screams “future”. For those who order the Myo you’ll be welcomed with a series of rectangular blocks connected together by slim lines, almost “half the thickness” of the original prototypes.
Myo is aiming to disrupt the way we interact with computing through the use of gestures. Myo uses the kinetic energy and motion stored in your arm to move and execute applications on Bluetooth connected devices, be it a tablet, smartphone, computer, camera or even the Oculus Rift VR headset.
The Myo armband is available to pre-order for $149 and is expected to ship to developers next month and for the general public sometime this fall (used to have targeted for sale date of “mid-2014).
Update: Thalmic has posted a note on their blog with some specs of the go-to-market MYO armband. Thalmic also noted that “We’ll begin shipping out pre-orders for the Myo Developer Kits next month, with final Myo units shipping this September.”
