Transit App for iOS adds city bike rental information, universal search

Per-hour bike rental service Bixi began its life in Montreal, so it’s fitting that Montreal-based Sam Vermette, creator of popular iOS and Android-based Transit App, would integrate the service into his app.

With version 3.1, the iOS app now supports bike storage and rental information for the following cities: Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco, Miami, Minneapolis, Columbus, Paris, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Rennes, with more to come in the future.

The app also sports a redesigned home screen, adding a map view that shows where the user is, surrounded by the closest supported transit stops. This is extremely useful to add context to a city you’re not familiar with, as the map expands with a simple swipe down. Finally, the update adds universal search, combining locations and transit lines into a single result list.

While the app is still a fair way behind on Android, let’s hope Vermette and team are working to reach parity as soon as possible.
