Huawei has joined the host of companies unveiling new products at IFA in Berlin today. Officially unveiled is the Ascend Mate 7, though curiously it’s not a 7-inch device.
The Ascend Mate 7 boasts a 6-inch 1080p display with 368 ppi and is based on Huawei’s own Kirin 925 chipset. Kirin brings an octa-core CPU with four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 cores as well as an integrated multi-mode LTE Cat 6 radio. Graphics are handled by a Mail-T628 chip, and there’s 2 GB of RAM working alongside the Kirin package to keep things chugging along.
The Ascend Mate 7 also packs either 16 GB or 32 GB of RAM, and the 32 GB model throws in an extra 1 GB of RAM, too. The rear-facing camera has a 13MP sensor with autofocus, LED flash and the ability to shoot 1080p at 30fps. The front-facing camera is a 5MP affair capable of shooting at 720p. The phone is powered by a huge 4100 mAh battery, which is even bigger than the Ascend Mate 2 and that device could charge other phones.
As was rumoured last month, the Ascend Mate 7 adds fingerprint authentication, which Huawei promises will end ‘password fatigue.’ Mostly, it brings the Ascend Mate in line with the likes of the iPhone, the Galaxy S5 and the similarly sized Note 4.
The Ascend Mate 7 will land in 30 countries in in Q3. Though Huawei hasn’t named all the countries that will have the phone at launch, it named countries in Europe and Asia so there’s a good chance those are the launch territories. Pricing is set at €499 for the 16 GB model or €599 for the 32 GB model with 3 GB of RAM.
