Microsoft is set to drop the Nokia brand from its Lumia lineup this winter, transitioning to a simpler marketing model that combines phones and tablets into a single ‘Windows’ brand.
To that end, Windows Phone will be subsumed into the larger Windows brand, eliminating the confusions that has been rampant with consumers and carriers over the past four years. Phones will be called Microsoft Lumia devices, and the category in general will refer to Windows smartphones.
Windows and Windows Phone have become extricably linked, both in design and development, over the past couple of years, so such a move is not a surprise.
