Plex plans to increase prices on September 29th

If you’ve been thinking about getting a Plex subscription but have been putting it off, now is the time to take the plunge. The company has announced that it will be raising prices come September 29th. If you’re already a subscriber, you don’t need to panic, as Plex has already said the changes won’t have any impact on current subscribers.

The increase for monthly passes is not insignificant, jumping 25 percent from $3.99 to $4.99. Annual passes will jump from $29.99 to $39.99, an increase of 33 percent. However, those purchasing Lifetime subscriptions after September 29th will be hit the hardest as the price is set to rise to $149.99, double the old $74.99 price tag.

Plex didn’t offer any information as to the reason for the price increase except to say that “with premium features and content, sometimes come moderate cost increases.” We’re not sure we’d called a 100 percent increase “moderate.” We’re not even sure we’d say that about a 25 percent increase, but with a smaller price comes a smaller impact.

For those not in the know, Plex is a media server that organizes all of your files and allows you to search and access that library of content from any device.
