BlackBerry Classic Q20 to be released in December, says Chen

While the company is still riding high on its success with the BlackBerry Passport, the next smartphone to be released will be the Classic Q20. This, as expected, will be a throwback to the BlackBerry of yesteryear and feature a physical QWERTY keyboard and the “belt” row of function keys (call, menu, trackpad, back, and end buttons).

The complete specs have already leaked online, and now CEO John Chen has gone on record to say the Classic will be released in December. Chen was a keynote presenter at the MIT Enterprise Forum in Hong Kong and highlighted its recent accomplishments, specifically the launch of the Z3, expansion of BBM, and making its software cross-platform.

Chen also noted that BES12 will officially be available on November 13th, then “a month later” will launch the Classic, which he describes as a Bold 9900 with “a little more power.” Check out the video below around the 1:05.00 mark.

The Classic will be “crafted from premium materials and designed for reliability and durability,” have a 3.5-inch display with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 2515mAh battery, 8MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and weigh in at 178 grams.
