Apple is set to release iOS 8.1.1 in the near future, issuing its first beta to developers last night. First impressions of the new software are good for iPhone 4S, iPad Mini and iPad 2 users, many of whom claim the iOS 8.1 update negatively affected performance.
While the A5 SoC is quickly aging, debuting on the iPhone 4S in 2011, it is still being sold in large volumes thanks to Apple recently discounting the original iPad mini (making it the only remaining A5 product in Apple’s lineup).
This likely means that Apple will continue to support the A5 well into next year’s iOS 9 release, aggrieving developers who have to support the aging silicon.
