Fitbit caused a bit of a stir last month when it said it had no plans for integration with Apple’s new Health app. Instead, the company was working on “other exciting projects” that it thinks will be valuable to users. Not long after, the rumours about Apple pulling Fitbit products from its stores started doing the rounds.
Now it looks like Apple has finally pulled the trigger. A quick search for Fitbit on Apple’s Canadian website returns no results and though pages for the Fitbit Flex and Fitbit One are still indexed in Google search results, clicking on them just brings you to the iPad accessories landing page.
Apple hasn’t commented on the removal of Fitbit’s products from its online store, though many people think it has something to do with the Apple Watch, which will launch next year and also track fitness and activities.
Given Apple still sells other activity trackers (like the Nike+ FuelBand, Jawbone’s UP24, and others), it’s more likely Apple pulled the products due to Fitbit’s comments on Health integration. It just doesn’t make sense for Apple to sell a fitness tracker that don’t work with its newly launched Health app.
Neither Apple nor Fitbit has commented on the situation.
