It was only a couple weeks ago that Facebook-owned Instagram announced that Canadians would see ads flood their feed sometime “over the coming weeks.” Well, today is the day.
The ads will show up like any other picture or video, but will appear in your feed with a “Sponsored” logo on the right hand side. Instagram noted in its message to users that “if you see one that doesn’t interest you, you can tap the “…” in the bottom right corner to hide it. This will help us bring you more interesting ads over time.”
According to an interview with the Globe, Instagram has carefully selected a handful of advertisers to be the first to use the picture and video social service as an advertising platform. These five launch partners are Hudson’s Bay Co., Target Canada, Sport Chek, Air Canada, and Travel Alberta.
