Montblanc, known best for its luxury writing tools and watches, has reportedly expanded its offering by entering into the wearable space. Most traditional watch manufacturers desire to keep the look and style of the classic watch in tact, so the best way to transform and keep up-to-date is through the watch strap. This is what Montblanc has done.
As part of the Timewalker Urban Speed collection, Montblanc will sell an optional high-end leather e-Strap that features a 0.9-inch monochromatic OLED 12836 pixel touchscreen to display calls, texts, e-mails, calendars appointments, social media feeds, reminder notifications. It will also have the ability to play your music. In addition, the Montblanc e-Strap will use Bluetooth 4.0 to sync with a smartphone and an accelerometer for activity tracking. The band is 40mm long x 14.2mm wide and the battery life will last up to five days of continuous use.
This idea is not new and is somewhat similar to what Toronto startup Kiwi Wearables created with its Glance accessory last year. There is no indication on when the Montblanc e-Strap will officially be available or at what cost.
