Logitech-owned Ultimate Ears unveiled its newest, baddest-in-a-good-way Bluetooth speaker this morning, the UE Megaboom.
A spiritual successor to the smaller UE Boom, the Megaboom is bigger and more powerful, obviously, but boasts a number of new features that justify its $329 CAD price tag.
With the ability to connect eight devices to the speaker and easily switch between them, the waterproof cylinder boasts a metal and plastic body that can be thrown around with no visible damage. Ultimate Ears claims that the speaker has a 100ft wireless range over Bluetooth, a 20-hour battery, and there’s NFC connectivity for easy pairing with an Android device.
In terms of sound, the Megaboom goes really loud — 90dBA — but deep, with a bass reflex of 65Hz that you can actually feel, and a high-end of 20kHz that is smooth and not sibilant.
The speaker can pair with a second for double-the-volume or stereo sound, both of which can be configured with an iOS or Android companion app.
The UE Megaboom will be coming to the US this month, with a Canadian launch date sometime in Q1. The speaker will be available in black, red, blue and plum variants.
The UE Boom, the Megaboom’s smaller counterpart, was our favourite Bluetooth speaker of 2014.
