Microsoft today rolled out an update for Skype that will boost ease of use for iPhone users thanks to improvements to the dialer and IM functionality. The bigger news is that the company is launching a new testing program specifically for its iOS userbase.
The pre-release program will give users the opportunity to provide feedback on new features before they make it to the final release. Spots in the program are apparently limited, though Microsoft hasnât said how big or diverse the group will be, just that participants will get access to early versions of Skype for iOS.
The program doesnât sound overly complicated. More than anything, it sounds like Microsoft, just wants a second pair of eyes to make sure it doesn’t majorly screw up with design and usability on new features. “The experience should be straightforward, ‘easy as pie’- you shouldnât have to overly think about how to do it,” Microsoft writes. “If it is anything more than that, let us know and we’ll strive to make you experience the best possible!” Users are also encouraged to report more general problems with call and video quality.
Skype 5.9 for iOS is available now from the App Store and requires iOS 7 or later. Learn more about Microsoft’s tester program here.
